The story behind The Arms of an Angel urn pendant (September 2010)
In 2006 when Shelby our Border Collie mix was diagnosed with Addison's disease I felt like I would be dealing with the death of a pet soon. Having spent a ton of time on the Internet learning about Addison's, I realize that she has a disease that needs meds daily much like a diabetic. However over the course of time with prolonged use of drugs her health will slowly fail.
In 2006 I sprung into action with paper and pen to draw pet cremation jewelry for her ashes. I worked with a wax carver who stated it would be impossible to create as it was designed. They offered up some suggestion on a redesign. Little did they know cremation urn jewelry was not something new on the market. The design was something new but the concept was already being produced by other companies. Weeks became months and I became more frustrated with the feedback I was getting about taking the concept outside of the US to be MFG. Having seen first hand what the competition was producing I did not want our quality to emulate that. I wanted our quality standards to be above what the competition was offering out there.
For a couple of years I dropped the design because of all the road blocks. I also took some time learned a lot about the pet cremation jewelry industry. I could not find a US manufacture that was producing custom pet jewelry urns.
In the fall of 2009 I watched my princess Shelby start to slow down. I knew the medication that she had been on would slowly cause her death. It’s emotionally difficult and draining to watch someone slowly head towards the Rainbow Bridge. From the dog that once jumped onto the couch, to the dog that now looks at the couch like a great challenge but continues to wind her self up to attempt to hit part of the landing.
Over the course of a year I enlisted the help of several new people in the jewelry industry. Five designers with two CAD specialist, three jewelry manufacturing facilities and 12 months later we are proud to announce the launch of "The Arms of an Angel" pet urn. We've designed a pet cremation necklace that truly reflects the love and devotion we share with our pets.
It's funny how death can motivate you do to great things. Creating a Sterling Silver pet urn pendant made in the USA from recycled silver to honor my "Heart Dog" has truly been a joy in my life to master. Our pet cremation pendant is the first design in our new pet urn collection. Watch for more new pet memorial jewelry in the coming years.

9-21-11 Shelby update
It is one of the saddest days in Dazzling Paws Jewelry history to report the passing of Shelby Rae. A Border Collie mix that filled our lives and trade show booth with great joy, love, laughter and happiness. My Heart Dog will be sadly missed.
